Trusting God, Even in the In-Between

Hi friends! I know I’ve been on a little hiatus, so I apologize for the delay in posting. The phrase “when it rains, it pours” definitely applies to my life the past few months! But, isn’t it just like Satan to send us one attack after another to try to interrupt the work that God is trying to do in our lives? If you’ve been feeling this way, I’m right there with you, sisters!
Over the last few months, I’ve had several conversations with friends about the changes that are happening in their lives, and in mine. God is on the move, working and refining circumstances and hearts. But often, when these seasons come, some of us feel like were are somewhere in the “in-between.” We know what moves need to be made. We can clearly see God working for the future, but we aren’t quite sure what is happening in the NOW. Have you ever felt this way? I’m right there too! I think we often feel stuck in this season of in-between when WE try to make sense of things that we can’t comprehend. After all, there are SO many Godly things that we may never know. But the question I keep feeling and the question my friends are pondering is “How do we manage in these seasons of in-between?”
My friends, I know these seasons of uncertainty are difficult. We struggle to understand why things are happening and how it will all play out in the end. It’s almost like we want a playbook so we know exactly is going to happen. I’m guilty of this too! I think, though, that the purpose of these in-between times is to teach us that we are not in control! I think that God wants us to truly just come a place of surrender and to fully know that He is writing the story! For perfectionists and Type-A’s like me, not being the one in control is hard! Can anyone else relate? But I believe that God wants us to get to a place where we fully trust in His perfect plan and His ability to provide for us. I know that can sound like a daunting task, but let me provide some encouragement that my friend and I have meditated on. In Matthew chapter 5, verses 26-34 Jesus says:
“26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin; 31 Therefore take no thought saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
Jesus clearly tells us that we need to seek HIS kingdom first and not worry about how He will provide. All we need to remember is that GOD WILL PROVIDE! When we step out in faith to follow His guidance, when we allow Him to order our steps, God will take care of us! There are so many examples of this throughout the Bible, that it’s hard to deny! Sometimes, though, we don’t allow God to be the one in control, the one writing our story, and that makes it difficult for us to rest in the in-between.
Charles Spurgeon once said “The seasons change and you change, but the Lord abides evermore the same, and the streams of His love are as deep, as broad and as full as ever.”
So, my friends and dear sisters-in-Christ, if you find yourself in the season of in-between I want you to remember that you’re not alone! God will be with you, loving you and walking through the season with you. Not only is God there, guiding you, but you have friends in the in-between too!
May you find rest in letting God write your story! Take no thought for the morrow, sisters! God is in control!
